The European Union (EU), through the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ), is reinforcing its support for the Mozambique Armed Defence Forces (FADM) in strengthening security in Cabo Delgado province.
EUMAM MOZ recently took part in a meeting aimed at integrating the Consultative Group into the FADM command structure, marking a significant step forward in consolidating the partnership between the two organisations, according to an EU statement.
The meeting focused on supporting the FADM in implementing and improving its capabilities, with the aim of guaranteeing the sustainability of the Quick Reaction Forces (QRF), enabling them to operate robustly and autonomously in the region.
In addition, the development of a sustainable Operational Headquarters and the creation of a QRF General Staff were discussed. During the meeting, strategic challenges, specific support needs and best practices for optimising command and coordination processes were addressed.
The integration of the EUMAM MOZ Advisory Group aims to provide close and effective advice, aligned with the strategic goals of the FADM and the need to strengthen security and stability in the region.
EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission whose mandate runs until 20 June 2026. It currently comprises 83 military and civilian personnel from 10 EU member states – Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania and Spain – and one non-EU country, Serbia.
