As part of its support for humanitarian response efforts across Africa, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development has sent a shipment to Mozambique to assist communities affected by recent floods and heavy rains that hit several regions of the country, causing significant human and material losses.
According to a statement reported by Egypt Today, the aid—comprising medical supplies and basic food items—was delivered last week by Egypt’s Ambassador to Mozambique Mohamed Farghal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and the National Institute for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction (INGD).
The document stated that the initiative was received with great enthusiasm by representatives of both countries, stressing that the assistance reflects the strong historical and fraternal ties between the two nations and will contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.
“This shipment is part of Egypt’s commitment to strengthening solidarity and cooperation with other African nations, especially during times of natural disasters and humanitarian crises. The recent floods in Mozambique displaced numerous residents, affected cities, and caused major damage to infrastructure and essential services,” the statement noted.
In February, the Minister of Economy Basílio Muhate received Egyptian diplomat Mohamed Fragjal in a courtesy meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economic and commercial areas. The meeting addressed strategic issues for social and economic development, with emphasis on agriculture, textile and processing industries, tourism, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), trade, energy, public security and health.
At the time, Egypt’s participation in the Maputo International Fair 2026 was also discussed as a platform for promoting business and investment. The event is scheduled to take place from 31 August to 6 September.
Last year, the Egyptian government expressed gratitude to President Daniel Chapo for supporting the country’s bid to lead the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The message was conveyed by the Egyptian Embassy in Maputo on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
