The President of the Republic and leader of Frelimo, Daniel Chapo, called this Sunday (12), in Matola, for Mozambique to move forward with structural reforms, strengthen national defense and security capacity, and invest in industrialization as the foundation for the country’s economic independence.
Speaking at the closing of the fifth ordinary session of Frelimo’s Central Committee, Chapo stated that combating terrorism and other criminal phenomena, such as drug trafficking and human trafficking, requires a more prepared state with greater response capacity.
“This is a direction and a commitment we have undertaken with the necessary responsibility, and we will continue to work towards this objective, because we know, by doctrine, that the task of national defense is primarily the responsibility of the State and cannot be delegated to other states,” he said.
These remarks come at a time of growing uncertainty regarding the continuation of Rwanda’s military support in Cabo Delgado, amid financial constraints. In this context, Daniel Chapo emphasized that strengthening and modernizing the Defense and Security Forces must be treated as a national cause.
“The strengthening and modernization of our Defense and Security Forces must be regarded as a priority of national interest for all Mozambicans,” he stressed.
Beyond security, the President also highlighted the need for the country to consolidate its economic independence, advocating industrialization as a central pillar for achieving this goal.
According to Chapo, Mozambique must accelerate the transformation of its productive base, reduce external dependencies, and create conditions for more robust and sustainable economic growth.
