The heads of state of Cuba and Malawi sent congratulatory messages this Thursday, June 19, to their Mozambican counterpart, Daniel Chapo, on the occasion of the country’s 50th anniversary of independence, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.
In his message, quoted by Lusa, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez reaffirmed his country’s desire to continue “strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation” with Mozambique.
Meanwhile, Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera, in his message congratulating Mozambique on 50 years of independence, expressed his wish to continue collaborating with the Government to strengthen the “bonds of friendship and cooperation that fortunately exist between the two countries.”
“Our cooperation is a perfect tool for consolidating fraternal ties,” the document reads.
On June 6, during an official visit to Malawi, President Daniel Chapo called for the removal of barriers to investment and the creation of a favorable business environment to support the economic development of the two neighboring nations.
“We are a family. We have the same names, the same culture, and the same language. So, there is no need for these barriers. Let’s make business easier so our countries can grow,” said Chapo during the visit.
Mozambique will celebrate 50 years of independence on June 25, with the main ceremonies taking place at Machava Stadium, where Samora Machel, the country’s first President, proclaimed national independence in 1975 after a liberation struggle against Portuguese colonial rule that began on September 25, 1964.
