The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) held a working meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to identify areas of institutional collaboration within the framework of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the business organization announced in a statement on Monday, July 14.
According to the statement, the UNDP expressed its intention to engage the private sector in its projects, “providing support for advocacy actions aimed at reforms to improve the business environment, as well as direct assistance to business initiatives, with a focus on value chains and market access.”
During the meeting, CTA presented some of its business support projects that could serve as a reference for collaboration with the UNDP. Among them was the +Employment Project, which aims to increase economic opportunities for the population of Cabo Delgado province—particularly youth—by improving access to employment and income-generating activities in the gas industry.
Also highlighted was a project financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), aimed at strengthening the productive and entrepreneurial capacity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the agro-livestock sector, with a focus on integration into regional and continental value chains. The project included training activities, technical assistance, and access to financing to improve production, quality control, and market linkages.
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to hold extended sessions where the private sector will have the opportunity to share its expectations regarding economic development. Following that, an engagement matrix between CTA and UNDP will be developed.
According to both institutions, “the initiative aims to promote strategic partnerships for sustainable development and strengthen business initiatives in the country.”
