Moza Banco Donates Children’s Books to Encourage Reading and Promote Mozambican Literature

As part of its commitment to social transformation and in line with its new institutional values, Moza Banco has donated more than 50 copies of the children’s book A Casa dos Móveis que Falam (The House of Talking Furniture), by Mozambican author Ernesto Moamba. The donation took place recently at the Guimarães Rosa Institute in Maputo, during the closing ceremony of the Children’s Book Production Workshop, organized by the Kuvaninga – Cartão d’Arte project, which values the arts and promotes environmental preservation.

According to a Moza Banco statement, out of the total offered, 30 copies were given to students participating in the workshop and 20 to the library of Unidade 30 Primary School, with the aim of expanding access to Mozambican literature and encouraging reading habits from an early age.

Elcídio Bila, head of Kuvaninga, stressed that projects encouraging reading from an early age should be increasingly valued by Mozambicans. “Contributing to awaken a love for reading is planting seeds of change for the future,” he said.

The Chairman of Moza Banco’s Board of Directors, Manuel Soares, stated that this action is part of a series of education-support initiatives carried out in various regions of the country, through which the bank provides different educational materials to promote education in Mozambique.

“Just last year, through our social responsibility project called Saber Sonhar o Amanhã (Knowing How to Dream Tomorrow), we delivered around 1,500 school supply kits to vulnerable children in the central and northern regions, because we believe in the transformative power of education. We hope these books will inspire in the children who receive them a love for literature, an area we also support with great enthusiasm,” explained Manuel Soares.

With the donation of these books, Moza Banco is putting into practice one of its core values — “Winning Together” — by contributing to a better society.
