Millennium bim has joined celebrations marking the 208th anniversary of Mozambique Island’s elevation to city status, an occasion that highlights the history and identity of one of the country’s most culturally and historically significant territories.
Held under the theme ‘208 Years of Mozambique Island: Celebrating History, Culture and Resilience’, the commemorations will bring together the local community, institutions, partners and visitors for a programme of cultural, musical, sporting, recreational and institutional activities.
Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, Mozambique Island holds a singular place in the history of the country and the wider region, standing as testament to the diversity of peoples, cultures and influences that have, over centuries, shaped its identity.
For José Mavara, Northern Zone Coordinating Director at Millennium bim, the celebration also represents an opportunity to recognise the island’s role in shaping the country’s collective memory.
“Mozambique Island represents an indispensable part of our history and our identity. Joining the celebration of its 208th anniversary is a way of staying close to the community and of honouring a heritage that belongs to Mozambique and is recognised worldwide. We want to remain present in these territories, supporting initiatives that preserve our memory while simultaneously contributing to its valorisation and development.”
With a branch network spanning all provinces of the country, Millennium bim supports initiatives directed at local communities.
