Karingani Game Reserve (KGR) has delivered a modern mill with a capacity to process 500 kg of flour per hour to the community of Mapulanguene, in the district of Magude, in an investment of over 3 million meticais, intended to benefit hundreds of local families.
According to a statement from Karingani, the initiative is part of the institution’s commitment to promoting the sustainable development of neighboring communities and took place as part of the celebration of Maguiguane Khossa Day, one of the most emblematic milestones of Mozambican resistance to colonial occupation.
During the ceremony, the governor of Maputo province, Manuel Tule, highlighted the significance of the gesture, stating that “this mill represents more than just infrastructure—it is an investment in dignity, time, and well-being for the people of Mapulanguene. The history of Maguiguane Khossa inspires us to defend what is ours and to work together for progress and national sovereignty.”
For his part, Karingani’s executive director, Mateus Mutemba, reinforced the reserve’s commitment to community development. “Karingani believes that conservation and human development must go hand in hand. This mill is another step in our joint effort to generate real and sustainable impact in the communities that host our reserve.”
As part of its ongoing support for agricultural production and productivity, in 2024 Karingani also delivered a fleet of agricultural machinery consisting of a tractor and various implements for shared use by the local community, thereby enhancing the production and income opportunities of rural families.
According to the same note, with these initiatives, Karingani Game Reserve reaffirms its mission to promote sustainable development, enhance national cultural and historical heritage, and strengthen ties with the communities that are part of its history.
