ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada (EMML), representing Area 4, announced a contribution of US$1.5 million (94.9 million meticals) to support various social projects in the district of Palma, Cabo Delgado province.
The funding will go toward programs that promote women’s health, improve food security, and create income-generating opportunities for the local population.
Among the initiatives supported is the Kama Mwezi project, which plans to produce 14,000 reusable menstrual hygiene kits for girls in the Palma district. The initiative also includes training sessions and ten workshops on cutting, sewing, and entrepreneurship, with the aim of strengthening women’s practical skills.
Another important program will be implemented by Consul Services and VAMOZ, which will install 500 more solar lights in several communities in Palma this year, adding to the 250 already installed in 2024. This expansion is expected to benefit more than 7,000 families and create 168 new jobs.
“Our commitment is to support the sustainable development of Mozambique in partnership with local communities, civil society organizations, and government authorities,” said Frank Kretschmer, general manager of ExxonMobil Mozambique.
The contribution now announced adds to the ongoing social work carried out by Area 4 partners—ExxonMobil, Eni, CNPC, KOGAS, XRG, and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH)—operating in the liquefied natural gas project in the Rovuma basin.
This support is intended not only to respond to the immediate needs of communities, but also to contribute to strengthening social cohesion and promoting opportunities for inclusive economic development in Cabo Delgado.
