Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI) on Thursday inaugurated the new premises of its Boane branch, in a ceremony presided over by Maputo Province Governor Manuel Tule.
Originally opened in October 2008, the BCI branch in Boane now operates from new facilities equipped with upgraded technological infrastructure and greater customer service capacity. According to the bank, the new space will strengthen the quality of services provided, keeping pace with the evolving needs of clients and the economic growth of the province.
During the ceremony, BCI Chief Executive Officer José Furtado stated that the renovation forms part of the institution’s strategy to modernise its commercial network and strengthen proximity with clients.
‘This reopening demonstrates the bank’s commitment to financial inclusion and the economic development of the district, bringing financial solutions closer to all those who wish to realise their projects and aspirations,’ he said.
Furtado underscored that the investment also represents a vote of confidence in Boane’s economic potential, highlighting the district’s strategic location near Maputo and the main transport corridors linking Mozambique to neighbouring countries.
‘Today we mark more than the opening of a branch. We reaffirm our connection with Boane — a strategic district that, by virtue of its privileged location a few kilometres from Maputo and on the route to borders with neighbouring countries, is establishing itself as a vital logistical, agricultural, and regional integration hub,’ he said.
Furtado added that the new branch reflects the district’s economic growth and reinforces BCI’s presence among local families, entrepreneurs, and businesses.
‘It is in this context of promoting greater economic dynamism that we present this new branch: a space that embodies BCI’s investment in innovation, proximity, and service excellence, offering the families, entrepreneurs, and businesses of Boane a more modern, digital, inclusive, and customer-oriented service model,’ he said.
Maputo Province Governor Manuel Tule said the reopening of the BCI branch represents an important step in strengthening financial inclusion in Boane District.
‘Today, we are not simply inaugurating another BCI building. We are celebrating a tangible milestone in the process of banking expansion, financial inclusion, and above all, the economic empowerment of our population,’ he said.
The governor added that proximity to banking services is essential to facilitate savings management, access to credit, business development, and the use of digital payment methods.
The branch reopening forms part of BCI’s broader strategy to modernise its commercial network, envisaging closer engagement with clients and the expansion of access to financial services across Maputo Province.
According to the bank, this drive aims to contribute to financial inclusion, the development of business activity, and broader economic growth.
