Mozambique’s agrarian sector has gained 81 newly qualified professionals trained by the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences at Universidade Lúrio (UniLúrio) in Niassa province, equipped to work in areas including rural development, forest engineering, and animal science.
Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI) recognised the highest-performing students during the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences graduation ceremony, held on 28 August 2026 at the Unango Campus in Niassa province, in the north of the country.
According to a statement from the bank, graduates included students from the programmes in Rural Development, Forest Engineering, Animal Science Engineering, and a Master’s in Rural Development — strengthening the pool of specialised professionals available for a sector regarded as strategic to the national economy.
The graduation marks the entry of new professionals into a market facing significant challenges, including improving agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, managing natural resources sustainably, and advancing rural community development.
During the ceremony, President Daniel Chapo called on the graduates to apply the knowledge they had acquired in service of their communities and the country’s economic development.
The head of state also advocated for a university more closely aligned with communities and the productive sector — one capable of translating scientific knowledge into innovation and practical solutions to national challenges.
It is within this context that BCI frames its recognition of top students, seeking to acknowledge academic merit and encourage young people to maintain a commitment to dedication, knowledge, and excellence.
Universidade Lúrio, a public higher education institution, operates across training, research, and university extension activities. Its Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, based at the Unango Campus, is dedicated to preparing professionals for the agrarian sector and rural development.
For BCI, recognising academic merit also represents a means of contributing to the formation of a new generation of professionals capable of transforming knowledge into solutions for Mozambique’s development, particularly in agriculture, forestry, and livestock.
