The Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, has revealed that the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has granted Mozambique 7.5 million dollars to finance the early warning programme and observation systems, as a way of helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.
According to the statesman, the amount was made available on the sidelines of the 28th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP28), taking place between 30 November and 12 December in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
“Mozambique’s participation in the climate event is producing results, most notably the award of 7.5 million dollars by the World Meteorological Organisation. We managed to attract the interest of partners and entrepreneurs, and the country has emerged as a relevant player with concrete actions and a clear vision on the global agenda on climate, peace and security,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference to take stock of the country’s participation in COP28, he emphasised that the meetings had been positive and that everyone had spoken of the need for urgent action to protect nature and humanity, as well as making political commitments to the joint battle against climate change.
