Prime Minister Leads Opening Ceremony of Regional Conference on Sustainable and Integrated Management of Miombo Forest

The Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, will lead this Thursday, August 4, in Maputo, the opening ceremony of the Regional Conference on Sustainable and Integrated Management of Miombo Forest, which will be held on August 4 and 5 under the theme “For a sustainable and integrated management of the miombo in building resilience to climate change and protecting the Great Zambezi”.

The main objective of the Regional Miombo Conference is to share information about the current state of this forest resource and identify opportunities to implement joint, coordinated and integrated actions regarding its management, monitoring, control and conservation along with the protection of the Great Zambezi, as a sure way to mitigate the negative effects on the ecosystems of the region, caused by human pressure and climate change.

“The referred conference, which will take place in a hybrid format (presential and virtual) comprises a variety of themes inserted in three panels, namely: Vulnerabilities and Opportunities, Miombo and Climate Change, and Threats and Opportunity,” advances a shared communiqué.

The event will be attended by members of the Government of Mozambique, representatives of some SADC countries such as Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa as well as different individuals from academic and research institutions in the region, cooperation partners, representatives of political parties, representatives of civil society organizations, community leaders, among others.
