Collective actors, including nationals and foreigners, based on Mozambique Island, in Nampula, will benefit from funding of around one hundred and twenty-five thousand euros, equivalent to more than eight million meticais for conservation initiatives on the island.
The amount to be made available from the second fortnight of April this year by the Portuguese Cooperation aims to support conservation initiatives in this region of the country, which is also a World Heritage Site, battered four weeks ago by Tropical Cyclone Gombe.
The information was released on Monday afternoon in Mozambique Island, by the Portuguese Ambassador to Mozambique, António Costa Moura, who is in that region of the country on a working visit.
The beneficiaries will be known as of April 13 this year, and additional support for the recovery of affected infrastructures in Mozambique Island is also expected.
The initiative is part of the third phase of the Portuguese Cooperation cluster for Mozambique Island, in the 2022 – 2026 biennium.
The Portuguese ambassador, who is visiting Nampula for the first time since his appointment to this post last year, participated on Monday in the seminar “The city of Macúti: Thinking about the Future – Heritage and Development” taking place in that part of the country.
