The Mozambican criminal police arrested in Maputo a 49-year-old Mozambican in possession of seven rhinoceros horns and three boxes of ivory tips, among other prohibited hunting items, the corporation announced.
The arrest occurred in the act during the sale to a citizen of Asian origin, on Tuesday, December 6.
The operation took place in Maputo and among the seized material were also five bags with skulls, claws and several lion bones, explained Hilário Lole, spokesman of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC).
The suspect is indicted for the crimes of killing and trafficking protected species.
SERNIC announced that the investigation will continue “in conjunction with the National Conservation Administration” of protected areas.
