The Foundation for Biodiversity Conservation (BIOFUND) and the Mozambique LNG Project, operated by TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1, Lda. (TEPMA1), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 2, 2026, marking the start of a strategic partnership aimed at promoting biodiversity conservation and the development of nature-based solutions in Mozambique.
The Memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between BIOFUND and TEPMA1 to develop initiatives that reconcile economic development with biodiversity conservation, thereby contributing to the protection of natural capital and the promotion of sustainable development in Mozambique. Under this partnership, the two institutions will collaborate on identifying and implementing investment opportunities in nature-based solutions, sharing technical and scientific knowledge, and supporting actions that contribute to mitigating impacts on biodiversity and achieving a net gain in biodiversity, in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements in Mozambique.
The Memorandum represents an important milestone in strengthening collaboration between the private sector and a conservation organization, laying the groundwork for a partnership that combines environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
For BIOFUND, this partnership represents another step toward mobilizing new partners for biodiversity conservation initiatives in Mozambique, while promoting innovative solutions that contribute to the preservation of ecosystems and the well-being of the communities that depend on them.
