Mozambique’s National Electoral Commission (CNE) has approved a total of 6785 polling stations, spread across the country’s 65 municipalities, for the local elections scheduled for 11 October this year.
According to this Tuesday’s 5 September edition of the newspaper Noticias, in the city of Maputo there will be 889 polling stations in 197 polling stations, while the province of the same name will have 1,355 polling stations in 355 polling stations.
“Gaza province will have 370 polling stations in 142 polling stations; Inhambane will have 325 polling stations in 95 polling stations. In the centre, Sofala province will have 656 polling stations in 105 locations; Manica will have 475 polling stations in 73 locations; Tete will have 419 polling stations in 81 locations; and Zambézia will have 561 polling stations in 92 locations,” the newspaper said.
As far as northern Mozambique is concerned, Nampula will have 947 polling stations in 168 polling stations, followed by Cabo Delgado with 512 polling stations in 82 polling centres and Niassa which will have 276 polling stations in 96 locations.
According to the CNE, more than 8.7 million Mozambican voters are registered to vote in the sixth local elections, below the initial projection of 9.8 million voters.
