Severe tropical storm Álvaro, which was expected to hit the Mozambique Channel between the 19th and 23rd parallels south, has weakened to a tropical depression and is now over the mainland of Madagascar.
According to the National Meteorological Institute (INAM), the strong winds that were forecast with the passage of the storm are no longer a danger, although moderate rain is expected to continue throughout the country, locally heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms mainly north of the 15 degree south parallel.
Even so, the authorities recommend observing precautions and safety measures when navigating by sea.
