The Regional Administration of Northern Waters (ARA-Norte) in Cabo Delgado province warns of the possibility, in the next few hours, of flooding in the lower reaches of the Montepuez, Megaruma and Messalo river basins, as a result of the heavy rain recorded in the region in recent days.
The director of the Messalo and Montepuez Basins Division said that the hydrometric levels in the Montepuez and Megarruma river basins are above the alert, which could cause flooding and impassability on some roads.
He calls for the evacuation of the population and their belongings from all low-lying areas to safe locations.
Micas Boaventura Bule further highlighted that the Montepuez river basin is receiving an increase in rainwater as a result of discharges made in the Chipembe dam in Balama district, where some communities are also experiencing flooding.
