Chapo Hails ‘Excellent’ State of Mozambique-Brazil Relations

President Daniel Chapo has described relations between Mozambique and Brazil as being in an ‘excellent state’, reaffirming his intention to deepen bilateral cooperation, with health, education, agriculture, and vocational training identified as priority areas.

‘With great satisfaction I note the excellent state of the relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Mozambique and Brazil,’ Chapo said, as quoted in a statement from the presidency. The remarks were made in a message sent to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the occasion of Brazil’s Independence Day celebrations.

In the message, Chapo underscored his commitment to continuing to strengthen the relationship with Brazil for the benefit of both peoples, with particular focus on health, education, agriculture, and professional training. The Mozambican president reiterated his intention to reinforce bilateral cooperation across these sectors.

According to Chapo, relations between the two capitals — Maputo and Brasília — remain grounded in shared historical and cultural ties, bonds that have underpinned the development of cooperation between the two countries across a range of areas.

Chapo also highlighted the symbolic significance of the date for the Brazilian people, describing the independence celebrations as an opportunity to reinforce the values of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation that unite Mozambique and Brazil.

In the same message, the head of state conveyed his ‘warmest congratulations’, on behalf of the Mozambican people and government, to his Brazilian counterpart Lula da Silva, as well as to the Brazilian government and people, on the occasion of the country’s independence anniversary.

Mozambique and Brazil maintain diplomatic and cooperation relations across multiple sectors, also benefiting from shared linguistic proximity and a common agenda within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).

Agriculture, education, health, and professional training are among the areas most frequently identified by both Mozambique and Brazil as priorities for the deepening of bilateral cooperation — a relationship rooted in the historical, cultural, and linguistic ties shared by the two countries.
