The province of Cabo Delgado is preparing to host the “International Conference on Industrialization, Agribusiness, and Tourism” this coming June, with the aim of attracting investment as part of its economic transformation strategy. The initiative is part of efforts to boost local economic activity.
The announcement was made in the city of Pemba by the provincial governor, Valigy Tauabo, who explained that the event is part of the implementation of the Territorial Strategy 2025–34. The conference thus serves as a tool to achieve the goals set for the province’s growth.
According to Valigy Tauabo, unlike previous approaches, this year’s conference focuses on diversifying Cabo Delgado’s economic structure. The shift in strategy aims to reduce dependence on traditional sectors and open up opportunities for new areas of development.
In this context, the event aims to capitalize on local potential beyond extractive resources. The focus is on industrialization, agribusiness, and tourism as fundamental pillars for boosting the provincial economy.
Industrialization is seen as a way to add value to raw materials, while agribusiness is expected to strengthen food security and boost exports. Tourism, in turn, presents an opportunity to highlight the country’s biodiversity and extensive coastline, contributing to foreign exchange earnings.
Despite the challenges posed by terrorism and climate change, which continue to affect some areas of the province, the official assured that Cabo Delgado is entering a new phase. This phase, he explained, is based on a logic of multidimensional resilience.
“We are saying that we must not lose focus on development, ensuring our people have lasting hope that better days are yet to come. For those days to arrive, we must set ourselves on a path of progress,” stated Valigy Tauabo.
He added: “It is in this context that we address the issue of resilience—the resilience of Cabo Delgado’s population is not manifested only in times of climate change, but on all fronts.”
The conference, taking place in Pemba, is expected to bring together national and international investors and partners, promoting interaction and the sharing of business opportunities in the province.
