The Coral Sul FLNG project, operated by the Italian oil company Eni on behalf of the Area 4 Partners (ExxonMobil, CNPC, GALP, KOGAS, and ENH) in the Rovuma Basin, revealed that it has invested around 20 million dollars in Mozambique’s northern Cabo Delgado province over the past five years.
According to Marica Calabreso, Eni’s Managing Director in Mozambique, quoted by TV Miramar, these are social responsibility projects focused on sectors such as education, health, and economic empowerment. “The social responsibility investments amount to around 20 million dollars over five years and have been closely coordinated with local communities and the Government.”
Regarding local content and Mozambican workforce participation, Eni aims to go beyond what is required by law and enable more national companies from different sectors to provide goods and services to the Coral Sul project.
Many young Mozambicans trained and specialized in Italy are now working on this floating platform in Mozambique, coming from provinces such as Manica, Sofala, Cabo Delgado, Nampula, and Maputo.
Out of approximately 300 permanent workers on the floating platform, more than 100 are Mozambican. This number is expected to grow as more Mozambicans benefit from specialized training abroad.
Last but not least, in terms of environmental impact, the floating liquefied natural gas platform, according to Eni, complies with all Mozambican and international legislation on similar operations and follows international best practices for environmental preservation.
