President Daniel Chapo stated that “currently, there are no towns under the control of terrorist groups in Cabo Delgado province,” highlighting “notable progress” in operations to combat the insurgency, the newspaper O País reported on Monday, April 13.
According to the newspaper, the statement was made during the opening of the 2nd Ordinary Session of the National Council of the Mozambican Youth Organization (OJM), during which the leader praised the role of the Defense and Security Forces, supported by regional and international partners, in the recovery of areas previously affected by attacks.
“Today, no village in Cabo Delgado is occupied by these enemies of the Mozambican people,” he stated.
According to Daniel Chapo, the insurgent groups are in constant retreat, pressured by military action, although they continue to carry out sporadic attacks, maintaining pockets of insecurity in some communities.
The President of the Republic also noted that, although terrorism has not been completely eradicated, the progress made already allows for the gradual return of displaced populations to their areas of origin.
The improved security situation is also helping to revive economic activity in the region, including major projects, thereby contributing to job creation and the revitalization of the local economy.
