The +Emprego project and the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA), in partnership with the National Employment Institute (INEP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO), launched the “Empresa +Emprego” campaign on Wednesday, September 27, with the aim of increasing the employability and visibility of existing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.
According to a press release, the campaign also aims to promote decent work, boosting sustainable development and social inclusion, based on local partnerships, as well as reducing inequalities and eradicating poverty. The launch ceremony, which unveiled some innovative SME practices to promote employability for young people in the province, took place in the city of Pemba and was attended by 35 people.
On the occasion, the general coordinator of +Emprego, Cristina Paulo, said that the campaign aims, above all, to increase the possibilities, skills and abilities of young people to find a decent job.
“This campaign values not only support for employment and self-employment, but also other types of initiatives, such as the qualification of young people, professional internships, short-term training, professional guidance and information,” he said.
For his part, the manager of the CTA’s Business Support Office, Elias Mondlane, said that the entity he represents “has embraced the campaign with every desire to help make a difference”. To this end, a “form has been created which must be filled in online by companies wishing to join the initiative”.
According to the intervener, “the three best companies will be rewarded with prizes ranging from fully paid attendance at an international event, direct access to the CTA certification program and attendance at a training session for human resources managers”.
In the same space, the director general of INEP, Juvenal Dengo, added that the initiative aims to give visibility to the province’s SMEs, especially those that take a dignified stance on corporate social responsibility, reiterating that the body he heads “is very aware of the challenges facing the country’s employment problem”.
“As part of our efforts to promote employment, we have created a platform for dialogue with companies, which allows us to survey their needs in terms of profiles to fill their staff. We also have young people who benefit from training and career guidance sessions at job centers, which we then refer them to for a job or internship,” he said.
Applications for the “Empresa +Emprego” campaign run until the end of November, by registering on this form, and more information can be found here.
The “+Emprego para os Jovens de Cabo Delgado” project is funded by the European Union and co-financed and managed by Camões IP.
The province of Cabo Delgado has been affected by a conflict since 2017 that has terrified the population. Groups of armed rebels have pillaged and massacred villages and towns all over the province and a variety of attacks have been claimed by the ‘arm’ of the self-proclaimed Islamic State in that region. The conflict has already caused more than 4,000 deaths (data from The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project) and at least one million displaced people, according to an assessment made by the Mozambican authorities.
