Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has invited Mozambique to take part in the second Brazil-Africa dialogue on ‘Food Security, Combating Hunger and Rural Development’, which will take place in Brasilia between 20 and 22 May.
According to information from Lusa, the invitation was made during a telephone conversation between Mauro Vieira and the Mozambican Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela Lucas.
According to Vieira, the event, which brings together African and Brazilian ministers of agriculture, follows the creation of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, inaugurated last year during Brazil’s G20 Presidency.
During the conversation, the Brazilian minister ‘congratulated the Mozambican government for its efforts in favour of national stability and solutions to the country’s challenges.’
In March, Venâncio Mondlane met with the head of state, Daniel Chapo , a moment that marked a possible turning point in the political crisis that has dragged on since the general elections. On that occasion, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, the meeting was aimed at ‘discussing solutions to the challenges facing the country.’
The document also stressed that the dialogue between the two leaders was ‘part of an ongoing effort to promote national stability and strengthen the commitment to reconciliation and unity among Mozambicans.’
