Azule Energy Hits Major Milestone in Angola’s NGC Project

Azule Energy announced on Tuesday that the Quiluma and Maboqueiro offshore platforms for the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project in Angola are now complete. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the country’s energy sector.

Angola’s First Non-Associated Gas Development

The NGC, a groundbreaking USD 2.4-billion project, marks Angola’s first non-associated gas development. Azule Energy, a joint venture between Eni and BP, collaborates with Sonangol E&P, Chevron, and TotalEnergies on this initiative. Operating in Angola’s shallow offshore waters, the project aims to produce 9.35 million cubic meters (330.4 million cubic feet) of gas per day at full capacity. Consequently, this development will contribute to Angola’s growing energy needs and economic expansion.

Safe and Efficient Construction

Workers spent 2.5 million man-hours constructing the two platforms without any lost-time injuries. This achievement underscores the project’s strict safety protocols and technical expertise. Furthermore, the successful completion of the platforms highlights the efficiency and dedication of the workforce involved.

Industry Leaders Celebrate Milestone

Alister Forder, Chief Operating Officer of Azule Energy, emphasized the significance of this achievement: “This milestone reflects the collaborative spirit, technical expertise, and dedication of all partners involved in the NGC project. As we move towards first gas production, this project reinforces our commitment to unlocking Angola’s energy potential and supporting a sustainable energy future.”

A Key Component of Angola’s Energy Diversification

The NGC plays a crucial role in Angola’s strategy to diversify its energy sector and strengthen its gas value chain. The project expects full completion by 2026, marking a major advancement in the country’s economic and industrial development.
