The government has announced that it will fund audiovisual and cinematographicactivity in the country with6.5 million meticals , as part of the second edition of the competition to support ‘audiovisual and cinema projects’, implemented by Mozambique’s National Institute for Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC).
According to the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, the idea is to encourage the dissemination and internationalisation of Mozambican culture, stressing that the programme will cover the whole country, with an emphasis on new talents and their first works.
‘This edition will cover the whole country and aims to support and finance film production with a focus on new talents and first works, the production of music videos, distribution and exhibition of audiovisual and cinematographic works,’ she said.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism launched the first edition of this competition in 2020, for audiovisual and cinematographic funding and support, making five million meticals available at the time.
In June of this year, the government announced that the new regulations for Mozambique’s Audiovisual and Cinema Law, approved by the Council of Ministers, aimed to simplify procedures in the sector and exempt the payment of various fees.
On that occasion, it was explained that the legal provisions had been renewed so that they were in line with the implementation of the guideline for reducing bureaucracy in the Public Administration, also making electronic licensing processes faster and closer to citizens.
‘This revision of regulations in the sector represents an increase in public investment for the promotion of national audiovisual and film production and encourages the development of the music industry,’ said the Ministry.
