The Attorney General and President of the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Américo Letela, will swear in 44 new magistrates of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) this Thursday (9) in Maputo, following their appointment to the rank of third-class public prosecutors. The ceremony marks the official start of their judicial careers.
According to a statement cited by the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM), in Niassa Province, prosecutors will take office in the districts of Ngaúma, Nipepe, and Maua. In Nampula, the newly appointed prosecutors will serve in Monapo, Memba, Malema, and Ribaue, as part of efforts to strengthen the MP’s presence across the country and expand territorial coverage.
In Zambézia, the new magistrates will serve in Milange and Chinde, while in Tete, they will be assigned to Moatize and Zumbo. In Manica, the prosecutors will work in Chimoio city and the Gondola district, reinforcing the MP’s activities in local jurisdictions.
In Sofala, prosecutors will take office in Beira city and the districts of Dondo and Nhamatanda. In Inhambane, they will serve in the districts of Jangamo and Morrumbene, strengthening oversight and crime prevention in these areas.
In Maputo City and Province, prosecutors will assume duties in the municipal districts of Ka Mubukwana, Ka Mavota, Ka Nhamanculo, Ka Maxaquene, as well as in Matola city, Machava, Marracuene, Moamba, Namaacha, and Manhiça, thereby increasing the MP’s operational capacity in the capital and surrounding areas.
The newly appointed magistrates completed the 22nd Initial Training Course for Entry into the MP Career, conducted by the Legal and Judicial Training Center (CFJJ) in 2023. Their appointment aligns with the institution’s strategy to combat corruption, organized and transnational crime, while reinforcing inspections and case screening in police stations and penitentiary facilities.
With these appointments, Mozambique now has a total of 823 magistrates — 439 men and 384 women. During the ceremony, an MP inspector will also be sworn in, further strengthening the institution’s structure and capacity to fulfill its mission.
