Angola, Mozambique Strengthen Ties on Security and Migration

Angola's Interior Minister, Manuel Gomes da Conceição Homem, is on an official visit to Mozambique until Wednesday, 23 September, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in internal security, migration, and other matters of common interest.

According to a statement issued by Angola's Ministry of the Interior, the minister arrived in Maputo on Sunday, 20 September, and was received at Maputo International Airport by Angola's Ambassador to Mozambique, Jovelina Imperial da Costa, and by the Permanent Secretary of Mozambique's Ministry of the Interior, Victor Canhamba Júnior.

The agenda includes technical-level talks between delegations from both countries' interior ministries, followed by a ministerial meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 22 September, in Maputo. The discussions are expected to address matters of mutual interest and identify new areas of institutional cooperation on internal security.

The visit is set to conclude with the signing of the Ministerial Meeting Record and a memorandum of understanding between Angola and Mozambique on cooperation in the field of migration. The agreement is intended to provide a framework for strengthening bilateral collaboration on migration management and related matters of common concern.

The Angolan minister will also visit the National Directorate of Civil Identification, where he will inspect facilities used for the production of national identity cards and passports. The visit will allow the Angolan delegation to familiarise itself with the technical processes and mechanisms involved in the issuance of identification and travel documents.

The programme also includes a visit to the Police Sciences Academy (ACIPOL), an institution dedicated to the training and capacity-building of police personnel. The visit is expected to facilitate an exchange of experiences on training models, personnel preparation, and capacity development in the security sector.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to deepen institutional dialogue between Angola and Mozambique, and to advance bilateral cooperation in areas including security, migration, and citizen protection.
