Zambezia province is maintaining stable stocks to supply its population, despite the concerns raised by recent demonstrations that have caused fear among local traders.
According to a report in the newspaper O País, some brands of basic necessities are in short supply, but the provincial government guarantees that, for the time being, ‘there is no cause for alarm.’
The provincial director of Zambézia, Abel Júnior, revealed that the paralysing of the border with South Africa, which took place a few days ago due to the demonstrations, had caused apprehension in the commercial sector. However, he assured that the situation is under control. ‘We have been monitoring the situation closely and we guarantee that essential stocks are at satisfactory levels,’ he said.
Júnior also emphasised the availability of rice and other basic necessities in sufficient quantities to meet the population’s demand. However, he recognised that the situation has led some people to go to supermarkets to buy products in large quantities. ‘It’s natural for families to take precautions, but there’s no reason to panic,’ he emphasised.
Despite the guarantee of sufficient stocks, some shops are finding it difficult to keep certain brands of products on offer. Meanwhile, others have managed to avoid more serious impacts by maintaining their services as normal.
The provincial government reinforced its commitment to continue monitoring developments in the coming days. ‘We are attentive to the unfolding of events and ready to act as necessary,’ assured the provincial director.
Zambézia continues to closely monitor the impact of the demonstrations, endeavouring to ensure the normal functioning of commerce and the continued supply of the population. The government is appealing for calm and responsible consumption, reiterating that it is taking measures to prevent any supply crisis.
