Port of Maputo Hosted 14 Cruise Ships in 2023 and Predicts Nine Stopovers by May This Year

The Port of Maputo received a total of 14 cruise ships in 2023, with more than 16,000 tourists, and this year, until May, the calendar foresees nine port calls. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s 2023 budget execution report, the ships came from Asia, Europe and some southern African countries.

“The vessels contained more than 16,000 passengers and 4,900 passengers were allowed to disembark, who benefited from visits to tourist sites and typical Mozambican cuisine,” the document states.

The budget execution report also states that, in the context of promoting tourism last year, “268 new tourist enterprises came into operation” in the country, of which 107 were for accommodation, 141 for restaurants and drinks and 20 agencies.

These developments generated “around 3987 jobs in the hotel sector”, he adds.
