The private sector is interested in investing in the construction of infrastructure in Mossuril district, Nampula province, northern Mozambique, in order to boost the tourism sector, boost community growth and improve the quality of life by generating more jobs for young people.
“The plan is to build world-class tourist resorts, including five-star hotels, villas, casinos, golf courses, a shopping centre and other units, which will make the province a benchmark location,” said the district administrator, Alfredo Machaieie.
According to Machaieie, the sector’s indicators continue to improve as a result of the work done to publicise the main existing potential, and he stressed that a “master plan” is being drawn up in partnership with the National Tourism Institute (INATUR) for the implementation of more initiatives.
“We intend to revitalise the Crusse and Jamal islands that make up the district. They are the government’s bet to generate jobs, promote the well-being of local communities and economic links between various sectors of the economy,” he emphasised.
Recently, the Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, revealed that more than 40 per cent of the investment projects registered in the country in 2023 were directed towards the tourism sector, yielding 7.3 billion dollars.
“Tourism brought in a total of 7.3 billion dollars, due to the large number of projects received, contributing 8.9 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product compared to 7.4 per cent in 2022,” he explained.
He explained at the time that the good results are related to the measures implemented by the government, which consist of improving the business environment, developing support infrastructures, restoring wildlife and training human resources.
