President Daniel Chapo received, on Tuesday night (13th), in the Báruè district, Manica province, the special envoy of Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, who conveyed an official message regarding the candidacy of Muhammad Adam for the position of Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) for the 2026-29 term.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the meeting is part of the diplomatic efforts by Ghana to mobilize support for Muhammad Adam’s candidacy, with the election scheduled for the 123rd Session of the WTO General Assembly, to be held on May 29 and 30.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the importance of tourism as a driver of sustainable development and reiterated their commitment to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Mozambique and Ghana.
The head of state thanked his Ghanaian counterpart for the consideration, highlighting Mozambique’s commitment to strengthening solidarity within the framework of multilateral African diplomacy.
Muhammad Adam, a career diplomat, is the candidate officially supported by the African Union to lead the World Tourism Organization for the 2026-29 term. His candidacy, promoted by Ghana, is backed by an intense diplomatic campaign led by President John Dramani Mahama within the international community.
