The governments of Mozambique and Italy are strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, focusing on the creation of new partnerships, investment attraction, and the promotion of Mozambique as a tourist destination in international markets. The rapprochement aims to generate new opportunities for the development of the country's tourism industry.
According to the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM), the cooperation prospects were discussed at a meeting between the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fredson Bacar, and the Italian Ambassador to Mozambique, Gabriele Annis, held at the Ministry of Economy. During the meeting, both sides assessed new ways to deepen collaboration between the two countries.
Among the areas identified as strategic priorities are investment in the tourism sector, the valorisation of cultural heritage, professional training, improved connectivity, and the international promotion of Mozambique.
The partnership could also bring companies from both countries closer together, through the identification and implementation of projects designed to stimulate tourism activity and generate new business opportunities in Mozambique.
In this context, the Mozambique Tourism Summit, scheduled to take place in Vilankulo, was highlighted as one of the main platforms for advancing this cooperation. The event is expected to bring together public institutions, investors, and companies — including potential Italian partners — with the objective of promoting investment opportunities and encouraging the development of joint projects in the sector.
Hosting the summit in Vilankulo is also expected to help showcase the region's tourism potential and the investment opportunities available across the country, at a time when Mozambique is seeking to raise its profile in international markets.
The reinforcement of bilateral cooperation could further encompass training and capacity-building initiatives, heritage valorisation, and improvements to access conditions at tourist destinations, contributing to the development of a more competitive and sustainable sector.
The meeting between Mozambican and Italian authorities represents part of broader efforts to attract new partnerships and convert the country's tourism potential into investment, employment, and wider economic development opportunities.
