Mozambique and Botswana Explore the Possibility of a Single Tourism Package

Mozambique and Botswana are analysing the possibility of implementing a single tourism package so that visitors from different countries around the world have the opportunity to combine beach tourism in Mozambique with inland tourism in Botswana.

The intention was shared after a bilateral meeting between the governments of the two countries, held in Nacala Porto, Nampula, as part of the working visit of Botswana’s President, Duma Boko, to the country, which began on Thursday (27).

‘We can attract tourists from countries in Europe, Asia, America and even Africa. We will have a single package in which tourists in Botswana can enjoy conservation and energy tourism, and in Mozambique they can enjoy the beaches, visit our islands and try our cuisine. We believe that tourism can be developed in this way,’ said the Mozambican Head of State.

According to a report in the newspaper Rigor, during the talks in Nacala Port, the two governments, led by their presidents, also discussed three other issues: the project to build the Limpopo line, linking Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambican President; the project to expand the fuel depots in the Port of Maputo, with the aim of increasing the levels of conservation and supply of fuel to Botswana.

‘It was a very important meeting, a productive visit. We believe that we will work together to realise the agreements signed, the projects underway and also other future projects to be developed between our two countries and for our peoples,’ said the President, Daniel Chapo.

For his part, the visiting Mozambican President, Duma Boko, thanked the government for the hospitality with which he was received and said that his government is fully committed to implementing the agreements signed with Mozambican President. With regard to the area of tourism and boosting this activity, according to him, the two governments are investing significantly in both land and air transport to facilitate links between the two countries.

‘We need to work together in the areas that the president indicated to ensure that tourists have a good experience travelling between our countries. This implies the issue of land transport, but we must also focus on air transport to connect our countries in 50 minutes,’ he emphasised.
