Mozambique Among the Big Winners at the 2025 Africa Tourism Awards

Mozambique stood out at the 2025 Africa Tourism Awards, held last Sunday, November 2, in London, United Kingdom, by winning the award for “Best Tourism Photography,” attributed to Dércio Rodrigues, founder of the ecotourism company Moz Outdoor Adventures. The event also recognized individuals and entities from Cape Verde and Angola who have distinguished themselves in promoting African tourism.

The campaign “Ilhas de Cabo Verde do Coração”, narrated by singer Dino d’Santiago, won the award for “Best African Tourism Video,” adding to other accolades it had already received in advertising. According to a statement sent to Lusa on Monday, the production strengthens Cape Verde’s image as a reference destination on the continent.

In Cape Verde, the president of the Tourism Institute, Hamilton Jair Fernandes, was honored for his “leadership and impact,” receiving the title of “Icon of the African Tourism Industry.” The same award was given to the Director-General of the Angolan Institute for Tourism Development (INFOTUR), Allicia Santos, in recognition of her contribution to the development of Angola’s tourism sector.

Angola also stood out with the president of the Association of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators of Angola (AAVOTA), Catarina Oliveira, who received the award for female leadership in tourism. Influencer Jessi Madalena was likewise honored as the “Young Tourism Personality of the Year” for her work as an ambassador of Angolan tourism.

The award won by Dércio Rodrigues recognizes Moz Outdoor Adventures’ role in promoting Mozambique’s natural landscapes and sustainable tourism practices. The distinction highlights the commitment to environmental preservation and the country’s growing appeal as an ecotourism destination in Africa. According to the organizers, the Africa Tourism Awards aim to recognize “the best the continent has to offer in tourism, from destinations and sustainability to media, hospitality, and leadership.” The event has established itself as one of the most prestigious celebrations in the African tourism sector.

In total, 35 awards were presented across 29 categories, honoring brands and professionals whose work contributes to elevating Africa’s image as a world-class tourism destination.

Recently, the Mozambican government announced its intention to position the country as a competitive international tourism destination and to increase the sector’s contribution to 6% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2029, under the Government’s Five-Year Program (PQG), led by President Daniel Chapo.
