The stakeholders of the tourism chain in Maputo city are committed to define the best tools of dissemination and promotion of the sector in order to rescue the competitiveness registered before the covid-19 pandemic.
In this context, the Council of State Representation Services in the city of Maputo held this Thursday, June 8, in the capital of the country, the first meeting with tourism operators that served to reflect on the current scenario that the sector is going through and find new alternatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Vicente Joaquim, Maputo City Secretary of State, challenged the operators to continue to bet heavily on promoting domestic tourism, through diversification of the most attractive tour packages to make the sector more resilient.
According to the official, with the resumption of normality, this sector is challenged to rethink strategies that aim to boost tourism activity, as a way to rescue or recover in an innovative way the movement of tourists, between domestic and foreign, offering high quality services.
“We are aware that covid-19 has greatly affected this sector, which is why we encourage operators, economic agents, makers of culture and city dwellers of this city to continue to bet on tourism activity with the hope that better days will come,” said the governor, quoted by the newspaper news.
According to the source, in the city of Maputo tourism is considered to be one of the biggest drivers of the economy, and is of vital importance, as it is one of the catalysts for socio-economic development and, above all, for the demand for locally produced goods and services.
On the other hand, the official added that tourism has also been contributing to the consolidation of national unity and to the appreciation of the national, historical and cultural heritage.
The event also served to outline concrete actions that could ensure greater dynamism of the activity, identify the best forms of inter-institutional collaboration and find a way of joint participation in the next edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM).
In his turn, the secretary-general of the Mozambique Travel and Tourism Association (AVITUM), João das Neves, acknowledged that the tourism sector is still far from reaching the competitiveness registered before the pandemic.
The leader also said that holding this type of meeting may help to identify some ways to rescue the sector in the near future, although there are many challenges to be overcome.
