The Maputo municipality plans to turn the Mozambican capital into a leading tourist destination in Southern Africa by 2030 through a platform launched on Friday, the 20th, aimed at promoting the image of a “dynamic and modern” city globally, reported Lusa.
The initiative was presented as part of the launch of the first phase of the ‘I Love Maputo’ project, which seeks to strengthen the city’s branding by promoting its values and potential.
“With this initiative, we aim to project a positive, modern, and dynamic image of Maputo, enhancing its visibility nationally and internationally, contributing to attracting more visitors, investments, and job opportunities,” said the municipal president, Razaque Manhique.
According to him, the project seeks to establish Maputo as “a reference tourist destination in the region and the world,” highlighting the attributes that distinguish the Mozambican capital.
The ‘I Love Maputo’ project consists of five phases. The first phase involved the official launch, including the presentation of the visual identity, the initiative’s manifesto, and its integration into digital channels. The second phase will feature visual interventions around the city, including murals, temporary sculptures, signage, short videos highlighting Maputo’s symbols, and urban mobility campaigns encouraging the use of bicycles and roller skates.
“This initiative seeks to foster a sense of pride and belonging among citizens, encouraging each person to be a true ambassador. We want every resident to take pride in Maputo and for visitors to leave with a positive and memorable experience,” added Razaque Manhique.
The following phases include editorial content production, with the launch of a digital and print magazine, promotion of the culinary experience through restaurant visits, and continuous broadcasting of programs showcasing Maputo in motion, as part of the municipal strategy that prioritizes tourism as a driver of economic sustainability and job creation by 2030.
