Government Expects Up to 250,000 Domestic Tourists and 55,000 Foreign Visitors During Easter

The government anticipates a significant increase in tourism during the Easter period, estimating the circulation of up to 250,000 domestic tourists and the arrival of around 55,000 international visitors across the country. These projections were presented on Friday (27) in Maputo by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fredson Bacar, during the launch of the Easter promotion campaign.

According to the official, the number of domestic tourists is expected to range between 220,000 and 250,000, representing growth of 12% to 18% compared to the same period in 2025. In the international segment, forecasts point to the arrival of 35,000 to 55,000 visitors, reflecting an increase of 8% to 12%.

Regarding hotel occupancy rates, authorities anticipate average levels between 60% and 75%, with higher pressure on major coastal destinations, particularly in the provinces of Inhambane, Maputo, and Cabo Delgado.

Fredson Bacar also indicated that expectations point to a 15% to 20% increase in tourism revenue, despite the challenges the sector continues to face. Among these, he highlighted the impacts of post-election protests in 2024 and the effects of natural events, which have affected recent tourism performance.

Nevertheless, the official emphasized signs of a gradual recovery in domestic demand, noting a trend of longer average stays. “Where tourists previously stayed between one and three days, there are indications that during this period, stays could extend to four or five days, driven by increased bookings,” he stated.

To achieve the set targets, the government advocates for coordinated action between the public and private sectors. The state’s role is to stimulate and facilitate tourism activity, while businesses are called upon to develop more accessible and attractive promotional packages.

The ongoing campaign also includes a stronger focus on digital promotion and the activation of key tourist corridors, aiming to attract more national and regional visitors and consolidate the sector’s recovery trajectory.
