Government Expects 305,000 Tourists and 75% Hotel Occupancy at Easter

The government expects up to 305,000 tourists during the Easter period, including both domestic and international visitors, with average hotel occupancy rates potentially reaching 75%, the Secretary of State for Tourism announced this Friday (27).

According to Lusa, Fredson Bacar stated that the country is expected to record between 220,000 and 250,000 domestic tourists, representing an estimated growth of 12% to 18% compared to 2025. In the international segment, projections point to the arrival of between 35,000 and 55,000 visitors, reflecting an increase of 8% to 12%.

Regarding hotel occupancy, forecasts indicate levels between 60% and 75%, with greater pressure on the main coastal destinations, particularly in the provinces of Inhambane, Maputo, and Cabo Delgado.

“The outlook is encouraging. We expect an increase in tourist activity, even within a context of adjustment,” said the official, noting that the sector’s recovery follows the impact of protests related to the 2024 elections and adverse weather events.

He also highlighted signs of improvement in the average length of stay. After a decline observed in 2025, linked to the aforementioned factors, the government now anticipates longer stays. “Where previously tourists stayed between one and three days, the current trend points to minimum stays of four to five days, driven by increased bookings,” he explained.

In terms of revenue, the government projects growth of between 15% and 20% during the period, although no absolute figures were disclosed. For this Easter season, the state will act as a facilitator, promoting conditions for the development of tourism activity, while the private sector will be responsible for capitalizing on the opportunities created, particularly through more affordable promotional packages.

Authorities also intend to strengthen digital campaigns and boost domestic and regional tourist flows, with a focus on the country’s main tourism corridors.
