Government: “Electronic Visa Not Yet Having the Desired Effects”

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, revealed on Monday, April 17, that the electronic visa “E-Visa”, launched in December by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has not yet started to produce the desired effects, due to lack of knowledge by some people.

“There are some people who are still unaware of the existence of the electronic visa and still choose to make the visa at our diplomatic missions. It is not wrong, it is an option. The important thing is that we have the services available so that the citizens can enter our country”, said Eldevina Materula, during a working visit to the Maputo International Airport.

The minister also recalled that the system was launched to simplify the process for obtaining entry visas to the national territory, fight corruption, improve the business environment, encourage good governance, attract more foreign investment, boost tourism activity, increase the number of visitors and revenues, among other direct benefits.

The E-Visa is part of measure 13 of the Economic Acceleration Package (PAE), launched by the government last August. The measure aims to improve the business environment and increase the country’s competitiveness in attracting foreign direct investment, leisure and tourism.
