The Mozambican government announced on Monday (27) the entry into force of a visa exemption agreement with the Republic of Ghana, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting investment and tourism between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the measure follows the ratification by the Ghanaian Parliament of bilateral agreements covering diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports. The decision is intended to ensure citizen mobility, facilitate commercial transactions, and stimulate tourism exchange, as reported by Lusa.
The agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and service passports was signed in 2022 in Ghana. The proposal regarding ordinary passports was submitted in July by the Mozambican Embassy in Accra and received approval this month.
Visa facilitation policies have increasingly become part of Mozambique’s foreign strategy. In December 2022, the electronic visa system (e-Visa) was implemented, and since May 2023, the government has granted visa exemptions to citizens of 29 countries, as part of a strategy to attract more tourists and investors.
Previously, the then Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, stated that these measures had been well received in Southern African countries and were part of Mozambique’s effort to position itself as a more competitive tourist and economic destination.
Additionally, conditions for investment visas have been revised, extending deadlines and simplifying legal requirements for foreign citizens with active projects in the country.
