Emirates, one of the world's largest airlines, and Mozambique's National Agency for Tourism Development and Investment (ANDITUR) have signed a memorandum of understanding to support the growth of international tourism in Mozambique.
The agreement was signed by Adil Al Ghaith, Emirates Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for the central region, and Hélder Jauana, Chairman of ANDITUR, in the presence of Rashid Alardha, Emirates Vice President of Commercial Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa, and other senior officials from both organisations.
"Mozambique is a destination with enormous tourism potential and we are delighted to work with ANDITUR to help showcase its diverse offering to a greater number of international travellers," said Adil Al Ghaith.
"By combining our global network with the strength of our regional partnerships, we can make it easier for customers to discover more of Africa, while simultaneously supporting Mozambique's ambition to develop tourism as a major driver of its economy," he added.
Under the terms of the agreement, Emirates and ANDITUR will develop targeted campaigns and tourism packages aimed at industry professionals and tour operators. The partnership also includes familiarisation trips and other initiatives designed to promote Mozambique, stimulate demand, and support the growth of tourism activity in the country.
ANDITUR Chairman Hélder Jauana said: "There are many destinations in Africa, but there is only one unique African experience — Mozambique. We intend to bring that experience to the United Arab Emirates and the entire Middle East region, both for tourists seeking authenticity and for investors looking for new opportunities."
Tourism has been placed by President Daniel Chapo at the heart of Mozambique's economic transformation strategy, described as the country's "blue gold". Mozambique is seeking to strengthen the sector as an engine of development, with the potential to attract investment, create employment, and contribute to inclusive growth. With approximately 2,500 kilometres of coastline, the country offers beaches, maritime activities, cultural heritage, gastronomy, and a diverse urban tourism offering.
The partnership with Emirates has the potential to advance that strategy through the airline's network across Africa and its codeshare agreement with Airlink. The arrangement allows passengers to travel to Maputo and Pemba via Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban on a single ticket, improving access for international travellers to Mozambican destinations.
