Cabo Delgado province registered a significant arrival of 53,000 tourists during 2024, defying a period of political and social instability following the elections.
According to the director of Cabo Delgado’s Provincial Services for Economic Activities, Daniel Agostinho, tourism in the region has shown resilience, despite the difficulties faced, as reported in the newspaper Domingo.
During 2024, more than 30,000 national tourists and around 23,000 foreigners chose Cabo Delgado as their destination, contributing to a total of more than 78,000 overnight stays.
‘We recorded 47,000 overnight stays by nationals and 31,000 by foreigners,’ he explained. This statistic shows a positive dynamic in the tourism sector, which continues to be a fundamental pillar for the local economy.
Despite these encouraging figures, Daniel Agostinho recognised a reduction in hotel occupancy rates due to the post-election unrest that began in October 2024.
‘These events contributed to the decrease in the movement of guests in the province,’ he said. The post-election environment had a negative impact on the tourist flow, especially in terms of international visitors.
