Brussels: Government Showcases Sustainable Tourism Experience at Global Forum

The Government has been participating since Monday, October 20, in the Global Tourism Forum, held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, with the aim of promoting the country as a sustainable tourism destination and strengthening economic diplomacy through new partnerships and investments. The two-day event brings together representatives from various countries, experts, and industry players, and includes a panel where Mozambique will share its experience in tourism development.

According to the newspaper O País, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fredson Bacar, is representing Mozambique in this first national participation in the forum, emphasizing that the meeting is more than just a tourism promotion platform.

“We were invited to participate in this event to share our experience under the theme ‘Expanding Africa’, addressing tourism infrastructure, youth employment, and investment. We will discuss current challenges, both global and local, and learn from the experiences of other countries,” he stated.

According to the official, Mozambique’s presence at the forum — which gathers governments, academics, financial institutions, tour operators, travel agencies, and hospitality representatives — aims to demonstrate the country’s potential to transform its natural resources into material wealth and improved living conditions for local communities.

“We want to attract strategic partners so that tourism becomes a true engine of sustainable development,” he stressed.

The Vice President of the Global Tourism Forum, Sekip Hardal, praised Mozambique’s participation, describing the country as an example of a sustainable tourism destination:

“Mozambique’s experience can inspire other African and European countries to adopt responsible tourism practices focused on environmental conservation and community development.”

The Global Tourism Forum concludes on Tuesday (21) under the theme “Redefining Tourism in a Transforming and Changing World”, focusing on recovery and innovation strategies for the global tourism sector.
