Brazilian State of Minas Gerais Signs Partnership with Mozambique to Boost Culture and Tourism

The Minas Gerais State Secretariat for Culture and Tourism has signed a protocol of intentions with two Mozambican institutions, namely the National Tourism Institute (Inatur) and the Centre for the Development of Financial Information Systems (CEDSIF), both under the supervision of the Ministries of Economy and Finance, respectively.

According to a publication in Integrity Magazine, the partnership provides for the exchange of experiences and good practices in tourism management, as well as the integration of cultural and artistic activities between Minas Gerais and Mozambique.

The document, initialled during the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (a trade fair dedicated to the tourism sector in Portugal), includes mutual participation in tourism events, access to the Minas Gerais Integrated Tourism Platform and the exchange of knowledge on tourism and the creative economy between the two territories.

‘Celebrating this agreement with Mozambique is a milestone for the union of Portuguese-speaking countries. The two regions share unique cultural riches, and this partnership is fundamental for strengthening tourism, culture and the creative economy,’ said the Secretary of State of Minas Gerais, Leónidas Oliveira.

For his part, Fredson Victor Bacar, Mozambican Secretary of State for Tourism, emphasised the importance of the alliance: ‘This intention to partner represents the revival of hope and commitment between our peoples. Even separated by an ocean, we can build new opportunities and share our rich cultural diversity.’

Minas Gerais has also been invited to take part in the Mozambique International Tourism Fair (Fikani), which takes place in October in Maputo.

‘The invitation reinforces the rapprochement between the two destinations and paves the way for new opportunities for cooperation between Brazil and Africa in the tourism sector. With this initiative, Minas Gerais is advancing its strategy of internationalising tourism, consolidating its position as a global destination and promoting cultural connections that transcend borders,’ he said.
