The Presidents of Portugal and Mozambican participated in a Business Forum between the two countries on Wednesday in Lisbon, bringing around 80 Mozambican businesspeople to Porto, Sines and the Portuguese capital.
The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) has prepared the business mission “with the aim of generating new opportunities for partnerships, brand representation in sectors such as oil and gas, agro-industry, transport and logistics, finance and services, renewable energies, hospitality and tourism”, which will take place from 22 to 24 April, reads the delegation’s visit programme.
The initiative culminates with the Mozambican-Portuguese Business Forum to be held at the Belém Cultural Centre in Lisbon on the afternoon of the 24th, with the presence of the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and his Mozambican counterpart, Filipe Nyusi, at the opening session.
During the previous days, Mozambican businesspeople will have the opportunity to visit companies and meet with Portuguese businesspeople in Porto on Monday and visit the port of Sines on Tuesday.
The Mozambican President will also take part in a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25 April Revolution in Lisbon.
During the business mission, accessions will take place in the form of sectoral and focused round tables with the participation of members of the governments of Mozambique and Portugal, according to the organisation.
Speaking to Lusa last week ahead of the visit, the vice-president of the Confederation of Mozambican Economic Associations (CTA) said that the aim is to “explore the opportunities offered to Portuguese companies to internationalise, as a way of increasing and diversifying Portuguese investment in Mozambique”.
The mission will show that Mozambique is “at a different stage and is still here, with open doors,” said Maria Assunção Abdula.
Two agreements are due to be signed between the Mozambique Stock Exchange and the Portuguese Stock Exchange, and between the CTA and the CPLP Business Confederation and AIP, and a “joint working committee between the government and the private sector of the two countries, coordinated by the Investment and Export Promotion Agency APIEX, will also be proposed to realise all the business intentions that will be revealed during the mission,” said Maria Assunção Abdula.
Mobilising new Portuguese investments for Mozambique, getting to know the financial solutions available on the Portuguese market for doing business and establishing partnerships, getting to know the technologies in the oil and gas, renewable energy, agro-industry, transport and logistics industries are among the objectives, as well as representing brands and promoting trade between the two countries.
