Ressano Garcia International Minerals Transit Terminal is Now Operational

The Ressano Garcia International Rail Terminal for Minerals Transit, in Moamba district, Maputo province, started operating at full capacity on Wednesday, 30 March.

This is an intermodal infrastructure, set up at the country’s biggest border post, designed to tranship cargo such as coal, magnetite and other minerals from trucks to railways.

One of the aims of this dry port is to decongest national road number four (EN4), which links Mozambique to South Africa, according to the National Director for Logistics and Development of the Private Sector and Transport, Ambrósio Sitoe.

With the start of operations at the Ressano Garcia transit cargo terminal, around 300 cargo trucks that travel daily on national road number four (EN4), heading towards the ports of Maputo and Matola, are expected to be removed.

This dry port is prepared to handle an average of 17 trains per month, each of up to 60 wagons.
