Maputo municipality is carrying out a survey of properties, built in recent years, in new settlement areas such as Mapulene, KaTembe and KaMavota with the aim of increasing revenue collection.
These are real estate properties on which the Municipal Property Tax (IPRA) is levied, in addition to other municipal taxes, the taxation of which may guarantee an increase in revenue and the municipality’s ability to intervene in improving the quality of urban infrastructure.
According to the Municipal Director of Planning and Finance, Dinis Nhancume, buildings have been introducing reforms in tax collection and identifying taxpayers whose tax situation is not regularised.
He revealed that a considerable number of residents do not have their tax situation regularised, even though they benefit from the services provided by the building.
“We have centralised the tax collection system and improved some aspects, which will increase the number of taxpayers and ensure our financial sustainability.
These actions will help us to meet the collection target set for this year of 3.5 billion meticais”, he said.
He added that the building has been experiencing a relative affluence of residents to pay the Municipal Vehicle Tax (IAV), Personal Tax (IPA), Real Estate (IPRA) and SISA.
Last year, the municipality collected 2.4 billion meticais from the collection of taxes, fees, repayment of urban poverty reduction plan (PERPU) loans, transfers from the state and other entities.
