Mozambique and Portugal intend to sign later this year a memorandum of understanding to allow the sending of Mozambican labour for various sectors of economic activities, with emphasis on tourism and catering in that European country.
The commitment was reiterated during a meeting held on Monday (17) in Maputo, where the Portuguese Secretary of State for Labour, Miguel Fontes, and the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Margarida Talapa were present.
According to the governor, it is in the interest of the country that the signing of the agreement takes place during the visit of the Portuguese Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes, to Mozambique later this year, as part of the bilateral summit between the two governments.
“I want to reiterate our interest and availability to move forward with the steps deemed convenient for the materialization of this goal,” said the minister.
On the same occasion, Margarida Talapa stressed that the government intends to resume the cooperation ties in the labor sector that were suspended in 2019 due to the covid-19 pandemic.
In past years, Mozambique and Portugal signed several cooperation documents in the area of labor, and carried out several programs related to vocational training.
